Motor Vehicle Trade Reciprocity Act of 2026
Impose additional duties on Canadian motor vehicles to offset alleged Canadian discrimination against U.S. commerce in the motor vehicle sector, protecting U.S. industry and jobs.
Bipartisan rationale: Democrats gain a structured, transparent process with notice-and-comment, oversight, and judicial review, protecting workers and due process. Republicans gain a clear statutory delegation that respects congressional authority over tariffs and commerce, with a sunset to prevent permanent trade barriers. Both parties benefit from institutional integrity: Congress reclaims its constitutional role, and the executive gets a lawful tool to address trade discrimination without overreach.
